Developing your Character...

Building a freeform for an unknown number of players is a daunting task. So we have simplified it by letting you develop your own character! You can make up an original character or play one from an existing source.

Steampunk is essentially cyberpunk set in the past, using steam-era technology rather than cybernetics but maintaining the "punkish" attitudes towards authority figures and human nature.

Generally, the time period is 1880-1910 and draws from the fashions of the time and the fascination with mechanical marvels and scientific discoveries.

Some suggested inspirations are Wild Wild West; Brisco County; Airship or Glass Pirates; Sherlock Holmes; Jack the Ripper; Dracula; Cthulu; Sleepy Hollow; The Prestige You probably have favourites of your own.

Remember - Every good character needs a fabulous costume!

SAFETY TIP

We request that any major characters from Girl Genius will adopt a pseudonym and remain incognito during play.

Or we will have a Jägermonster steal your hat and  eat your head. 

And they will enjoy it.

You need to tell us...

You can make your character as deep or superficial as you like, however, you will need to tell us a few things about your character to assist with game play. 

Are you a TINKERER?

    lit. One who tinkers. Are you one who plays with machines and creates mechanical marvels?

    Note: You may or may not be a Spark, but it would be very unwise for a Spark to go on one of the Baron’s airships unless you enjoy being the experiment. 

or are you an ADVENTURER?

    The mercenary of the day; can fight and swashbuckle with the best. Very good at using gadgets, but has no idea how to go about making them. 

or are you JÄGERKIN?

    Surprisingly loyal monster-kin with an obscure hat fetish. Not backwards about bloodthirsty sports. Or parties.

and what is your SECRET?

    Every character has flaws and/or a deep dark secret that they want to hide from the world. You vill tell us (and nobody else) what that secret is! 

and what STUFF have you got?

    You can bring in all sorts of Stuff that makes sense for your character. It can be incredibly useful. Mind you, if it is too large it will be noticed, and if it is too powerful, it may be subject to the Field Device. If you want a chance of using it in the game anyway, you will need to tell us before use.
